I assist the Homeroom teachers with technology needs for the younger students. PreK 4 starts with manipulating and working on iPads. When we move up to Kindergarten, the students work on iPads and move upstairs, at least twice a week, to work on the desktop computers. They learn how to use a mouse and keyboard. They learn what the parts of a computer are. They play educational games that help them with math, reading, and social studies. By the 2nd grade, we are starting to look at creating documents.
The students will be in competition with each other for the amount of bubbles they can pop to see where their mouse skills are at!
Technology for 3rd through 5th Grade is a collaboration between the Homeroom Teacher and myself. Our goal is to prepare the students for middle school and give them the technology requirements needed to succeed in all facets whether at school or home. Students will begin learning how to type and use the different programs available on the computer. Grades for technology begin in 3rd grade. By the 5th grade, they learn to type and are ready to tackle chromebooks when they promote to the 6th grade. Students are graded on participation/conduct and occasionally projects assigned using technology.
