The Pro-Life Club would like to provide the nursing home residents with Prayer Blankets again this year. It is a way of showing the residents that they are thought about and prayed for by many. It also teaches the students to respect the elderly besides the young and unborn. It was an incredible experience last year for the residents and the students. Many were brought to tears.
We are having a workshop after school on Nov. 4th from 3:30-5:00. Donations of 2 pieces of coordinating fleece, 1 yard in length, are needed. The blankets are made lap size in order to fit in the wheelchairs or regular chairs. You will also need to bring an old sheet to work on, good cutting scissors, and a heavy duty metal tape measurer. The material is cut and then the strands are knotted with prayers said for each knot tied for the person who will receive the blanket.
If you cannot attend the workshop, blankets can be made at home and brought to school at a later date. I will be glad to provide any instructions if needed. If you are unable to do either, donations of material will be appreciated. Anyone making blankets will earn community service or volunteer hours.
We are having the workshop early in order to beat the rush of activites in December. At this time, we are in need of approximately 60 blankets. It sounds like a lot but last year we were able to make 50! Just enough for every permanent resident. The blankets will then be delivered sometime in December with a date and time to be announced later. I know there is a Holy Trinity football game that night but you will get done in plenty of time.
There will be a sign up sheet outside the office for those attending, those who can make blankets at home, and those who can donate material in order that we can see how many are going to be made.
