Robert Fix: Middle School History
Greetings,
I serve Jesus Christ and my name is Robert Fix.
I have been a classroom teacher of History for the last 30 years but got my start as a presenter, reenactor and experiential historian around the age of 5. I am the founder and director of Lessons to Last, Inc. Historical Consultants and Educational Resource Library and a pioneer in the use of the Multi-Sensory Approach to teaching History.
I have 42 active hobbies, which include backpacking, camping and wilderness survival, Native American crafts and lore, historical presentations, reenacting and teaching, woodworking and other historical arts and crafts, cooking, writing poetry and playing the bagpipes. I was one of the re-enactors (as John Colter) with the National Lewis and Clark Expedition Bicentennial 2004-06 with the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles, MO and took part in the 200th anniversary reenacted battle of New Orleans in 2015.
I believe that it is my calling and my responsibility to teach students the depth of their history, the value of their country and the lessons of the founding fathers and mothers. I teach of the sacrifices and struggles that brought them to this current time and to see the past in a different light and I want them to find how their individual pasts all relate to one another from across the ages. To do this, I strive to create a learning environment in which my students will feel safe, secure and protected enough to explore, to grow and to learn the lessons of the past, the needs of our society and the workings of the world around us. My constant goal is to give my students the opportunities to see, feel, hear, taste, and emote the stories of our past and to relate them to the here and now.
It is an honor to be able to join this family and to be able to contribute to the educational adventure of the students of St. Mary’s.

Facilities Director – Dave Hickman:
Hello to St. Mary’s staff and faculty.
I am Dave Hickman and am pleased to accept the position of Facilities
Maintenance Coordinator for St. Mary’s Catholic Church and School. I am very
grateful to Father Will Rooney and Mr. Warfield for giving me this opportunity to
make a difference here at St. Mary’s. My wife and I have been parishioners here
at St. Mary’s since 1994 and are fully vested in the success of the parish and
school.
These past 12 years I have been employed at the University of Mary Hardin
Baylor (UMHB) in Belton, TX as the Sports Facilities Maintenance supervisor. I
was responsible for anything and everything related to the maintenance of
collegiate sports fields. (please ask me! I know that this experience will benefit St.
Mary’s and I am excited to share that.)
Prior to my stint at UMHB I was here at St. Mary’s working with the church and
school for 11 years. That was the time that we bought the Reagan Building from
Temple ISD and began the renovations to the school building. I worked with both
church and school personnel to maintain all the grounds and buildings.
My early career began when I graduated from high school in Pennsylvania and
entered the US Air Force. This took us to many places, eventually ending up in
Portland, OR, and then moving here to Texas in 1988.
I look forward to meeting and working with all of you. Here’s to the start of a
successful school year!
