Your job will be to reproduce an early English Colony/Settlement found on the eastern coast of the modern day United States.
You will have the choice of how you will do this. Here are some examples:
*
All projects will have a writing component to it.
Make a Google website
Create a 3D model
Put together a Google Presentation or Prezi
Create and direct an iMovie
Make a colony using a gaming software like Minecraft
Put together a display board
Google slides, powerpoint, etc are all acceptable choices.
Making a travel brochure.
You may choose another way! Just ask me for approval.
You will need to specify which colony/settlement you have chosen to recreate. This colony/settlement needs to be an actual place in history.
4. Your project should show the following information. Use these questions to help guide your research also.
What life was like in the colony/settlement. What did people do to survive? How did the colony make money?
How the colonist interacted with Native Americans. Did the corporate or have wars? Was it a little of both?
The purpose of colony. Why did people come to your colony? How did the economy of the colony work? Why did people stay?
Human and physical characteristics of your colony. What did the house look like? What type of people lived there, ex indentured servants? What were domestic and wild animals people depended on?
The geographical location of your colony/settlement.
Important people/groups in your colony. Some historical figures could be; William Bradford, John Smith, John Rolfe, Squanto).
The colony’s government. What type of government was used? Who ran the government? Who enforced the laws or rules?
Anything else that would be informative about your colony/settlement.
Essential questions. These are big questions and need to be answered last. You will use information from above to answer these questions.
Why & how were 13 different colonies formed?
Explain multiple factors which lead to the success of the 13 colonies and the crumbling leadership of various countries who controlled the 13 colonies.
How can a person display their civic responsibility?
Why is it important to be a productive member of society?
How has international trade impacted globalization?
How does the trading of goods impact a country?
5. Depending on what type of project you create to show your learning, a “key” may be needed for someone else besides you to understand the project.
